Abstract

The Self is an Illusion. The idea of a (many-voiced) “self“ inside man is questioned. Fritz Perls did not have a coherent concept of a “self” and described it as process or inner authority. Based on Hermann Schmitz‘ New Phenomenology the concept of man who has got a self is widened to a man as an agent of awareness without a “self”. The idea of an inner world inside man is transformed to one of living in situations. The author asserts that gestalt therapy can be more efficient without the concept of an “inner self”. Man without a self is seen as self-less, social human being in contrast to people who become obsessed with the optimization of the self.
