Abstract

Contact as the first reality. Inter subjectivity in Gestalt therapy. One of the key sentences in the founding text of Gestalt therapy goes as follows: »Contact itself is the first and most immediate reality« (Perls et al.1951). With this Gestalt therapy was founded as a psychotherapeutic method, which is based on the concept of inter subjectivity – a concept, which its founders could not develop into further differentiation. The following article shows from the perspectives of developmental psychology, anthropology and neuro-psychology, the development and expansion of the concept of inter subjectivity since the beginnings of Gestalt therapy. One particular aspect – with reference to Vygotsky’s term of »interiorisation« – will be looked at and how this »first reality« of contact will have an impact in therapeutic processes.
