Zusammenfassung

Der Film »Harold and Maude« hat Kultcharakter. Nicht zuletzt wegen der Brisanz der Themen, die darin abgehandelt werden: die Faszination des Todes, der Selbstmord, die Verhöhnung des »Establishments« wie die romantische Verbindung eines jungen Mannes mit einer wesentlich älteren Frau. Anhand des filmischen Fallbeispiels beschäftigt sich die Autorin mit der Angst vor der eigenen Lebendigkeit, mit der Scheu davor, die eigene Einzigartigkeit auszuleben, mit der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Alterungsprozess und dem bewussten Umgang mit Sterblichkeit, auch der eigenen.

Abstract

Harold and Maude: Singularity and Mortality. The film »Harold and Maude« has achieved cult status. Not least because of the explosive subjects, which it deals with: fascination by death, suicide, making fun of the establishment as well as the romantic relationship between a young man and a much older woman. Using examples from the film, the author discusses the fear of being alive, the shyness to actually live ones uniqueness, of facing the process of getting old and the conscious dealing with mortality.
